Ally Law shows resilience amid pandemic

Hong Kong, 31 May 2021: Colin Cohen has hailed the strong performance of global legal services network Ally Law amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The organisation has seen an increase in referral business and added new firms in several key jurisdictions to maintain its upward trajectory.

“Referral income rose by more than 13% in 2020 compared with the previous year, which is testament both to the strong ties between member firms and how well many of them have adapted to remote working,” said Colin, Senior Partner in Boase Cohen & Collins and Chairman of Ally Law’s Expansion Committee.

“Further, we used video conferencing technology to interview and select three excellent firms in Colombia, Chile and Peru as new members, which has greatly enhanced our presence in South America. We also filled our long-vacant position in Romania. Despite the coronavirus creating obvious challenges, we believe we are on track towards achieving our membership goals.”

Colin was speaking after Ally Law’s virtual AGM which comprised two days of networking, presentations and discussions across multiple time zones. Some 330 legal professionals registered for the event, including many from BC&C.

The keynote address was given by Professor Richard Susskind, a prominent legal futurist who sketched out how technology is changing the work of lawyers in areas such as virtual hearings, online dispute resolution and client relationships.

Ally Law comprises more than 70 independent law firms worldwide, who work together to help clients overcome their international legal and business challenges.

Colin added: “This was the second year running the AGM has been held via video conferencing. With the worldwide drive to vaccinate against Covid-19 and the gradual reopening of borders, we are confident we will meet face-to-face as scheduled in Zurich next year.”

Poised to enter the five-ring circus

Hong Kong, 26 November 2025: “It’s not the winning, but the taking part.” I doubt Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt had the famous words of Baron Pierre de Coubertin on his mind as he stormed to 100m gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
