Cross-border talks enhance legal ties

Hong Kong, 6 December 2024: Our Senior Partner Colin Cohen is part of a delegation of Hong Kong legal professionals currently visiting Guangdong Province for talks aimed at furthering cross-border co-operation in legal and business matters.

The group, comprising more than 30 individuals, includes office bearers of the Law Society of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Bar Association, plus representatives from local, international and registered foreign law firms. It is being led by the Secretary for Justice, Paul Lam SC.

“Given the rapid growth of the Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong’s key role as a legal, financial and business hub, it is essential that cross-border ties are strengthened so that we can achieve better mutual understanding and enhanced co-operation with our Mainland counterparts,” says Colin, who serves on the Law Society’s Sports Law and Claims Committees.

The delegation spent yesterday in Guangzhou, where discussions took place with Guangdong vice-governor Liu Guozhou and other senior provincial government officials, plus representatives from the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government.

After a heritage tour in Guangzhou last night, the Hong Kong representatives have moved on to Shenzhen today for further talks with government, administrative and regulatory officials.
