PolyU powering robotics revolution

Hong Kong, 12 August 2025: The rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics is having a huge impact on the legal profession and here at BC&C we are embracing new technologies as a way of enhancing efficiency and further improving our service to clients.

In this regard, we are grateful to fintech professor Brian Kei and his ingenious team at Hong Kong Polytechnic University for implementing their pioneering Robotic Process Automation (RPA) system to assist us in client conflict searches. RPA is a technology that builds and manages software robots which emulate humans’ interactions with digital systems.

“Like all law firms, we are obliged to conduct conflict checks before engaging a new client, thus ensuring we will not be representing someone whose interests directly conflict with an existing client. These data searches are, by nature, exhaustive and time consuming, and some potential conflicts are not easily identified,” explains Managing Partner Alex Liu.

“The RPA system implemented by Brian and his team is considerably faster than non-automated searches, with greatly reduced chance of error. Not only that, it is easily scalable to handle more complex tasks and can be extended to other areas of our operations such as document processing, data evaluation and accounting.”

PolyU is renowned for its AI and robotics teaching and research while Professor Kei, from the School of Accounting and Finance, has been recognised for his efforts to foster collaboration between students and the business world by embarking on projects using automation technologies.
