Moot showcases Asia-Pacific legal talent

Hong Kong, 21 March 2022: Colin Cohen has praised the standard of competing teams after acting as a judge in the 20th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot. Legal scholars from 24 universities and tertiary institutions across Asia-Pacific took part in the five-day event.

“As in previous moots, the students showed tremendous knowledge of the subject matter and exceptional advocacy skills. Clearly, the future of the legal profession in Asia Pacific is in capable hands,” said Colin, Senior Partner in Boase Cohen & Collins.

The teams argued a fictional case in which the CEO of an information technology and artificial intelligence corporation, having supplied state-of-the-art technology to a country at war with its neighbour, was accused of war crimes before the International Criminal Court.

Singapore Management University, represented by Meher Malhotra and Alyssa Tang, were the winners, defeating Indonesia’s Universitas Gadjah Mada in the final. Dylan Andrian from the runners-up was named Best Mooter.

The event, held via Zoom due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was organised by the Hong Kong Red Cross and Beijing Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
