AI the key discussion point in Dublin

Hong Kong, 26 May 2026: Artificial intelligence loomed large over the Ally Law AGM in Dublin as delegates – including our Senior Partner Colin Cohen and Managing Partner Alex Liu – discussed its impact on the legal profession. A series of talks, workshops and panel discussions examined how AI is shaping the sector, what law firms must do to harness it and why it can only assist, but not replace, human talent.

“The conference was extremely useful in helping us understand both the possibilities of AI and its limitations. With sensible use, it undoubtedly improves efficiency, but it cannot create meaning, cultivate client relationships or build trust. We still need gifted lawyers and support staff to do that,” explains Alex. “We’re grateful to the AGM organisers for presenting the topic in such an accessible and practical way. Everyone learned a great deal.”

Themed “From Technology to Trusted Relationships” and hosted by Dublin law firm Hayes Solicitors, the AGM attracted delegates from almost 80 independent firms worldwide. Alex moderated a session entitled “Chinese SOEs in Transition: Restructuring Global Investments” while Colin offered his insights during a panel discussion on cross-border dispute resolution.

Traditional Irish hospitality was abundant with numerous cultural tours, networking dinners and sightseeing trips on offer for delegates and guests. Colin – a past President of the organisation – confirms: “While Ally Law has expanded and evolved, it must never lose its social side. In the age of virtual meetings, nothing will ever replace face-to-face gatherings such as the one in Dublin. It is only through regular meetings with our colleagues that we establish relationships, build bridges and learn our respective strengths. We can then pass on these benefits to clients.”

Ally Law provides comprehensive legal services to major corporations worldwide and helps clients overcome their international business challenges. BC&C, the sole member representing Hong Kong, joined in 2005 and staged the first Asia Pacific Regional Meeting the following year. We hosted the AGM in 2009 and another Asia Pacific gathering in 2019.
