BC&C supports new guide dog centre

Hong Kong, 27 May 2025: Applause, cheers and wagging tails greeted the long-awaited opening of the Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association’s fantastic new breeding and training centre – and Boase Cohen & Collins was honoured to be there in support.

The bespoke facility – the new home of the Hong Kong Guide Dogs Academy – has been established in the revitalised former Lau Fau Shan Police Station, a classified Grade III historic building in the New Territories. It will play a vital role in nurturing guide dogs for the visually impaired and service dogs to provide assistance and companionship for a wider scope of people in need.

Here at BC&C, we have adopted the association and its academy offshoot as our official charity as we celebrate our 40th anniversary. This support includes volunteering at events, providing pro bono legal advice and organising legal seminars to explain issues around dog ownership and compliance.

“As a firm, we have always had a strong tradition of community outreach and a desire to give back to society. We feel that supporting the Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association and its pioneering academy are an appropriate way to mark our landmark year,” says BC&C Managing Partner Alex Liu, who is also Honorary Legal Advisor to the organisation.

“We offer our heartfelt congratulations to all involved in the opening of the new centre. Over the next few years, it will have a life-changing impact on the lives of many people in Hong Kong.”

The Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association was set up in 2011 with the aim to provide internationally accredited and professional service dogs. It is a registered charitable organisation with a vision to ensure people with disabilities can live with independence and dignity through the right choice of service dogs. The new academy has been developed with support from the government’s Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme.

BC&C was established in 1985 by legal professionals Colin Cohen and Melville Boase. Colin remains with the firm as Senior Partner while Mel retired in 2019.
