Hong Kong, 19 May 2025: We were delighted to co-host a webinar with our friends from Chance Bridge Law Firm, the new mainland China member of global legal services organisation Ally Law.
The session focused on litigation matters in Hong Kong and the Mainland, examining such topics as procedures, enforcement and costs. It reflected not only the intention of both firms to work closely together, but also the new era of cross-border co-operation facilitated by the Mainland Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters (Reciprocal Enforcement) Ordinance, which came into force some 15 months ago.
“Legal co-operation between Hong Kong and the Mainland is increasing rapidly with a string of landmark agreements in recent years, partly driven by the significant development of the Greater Bay Area,” says BC&C Consultant and cross-border dispute resolution specialist John Zhou, who helped organise the webinar.
“Here at BC&C, we are quickly demonstrating our expertise in dealing with cross-border judgment enforcements. In the past year, we have registered mainland judgments exceeding HK$2.6 billion with the Hong Kong courts under various cross-border arrangements and common law mechanisms.
“In this context, it is important for us to work in tandem with Chance Bridge to gain a greater understanding of procedures in each other’s jurisdictions for the benefit of clients. We intend to make these webinars a regular occurrence.”
After opening remarks from BC&C Managing Partner Alex Liu and Mainland counterpart Zhu Ning, attendees heard two presentations from each side: John and Senior Associate Claire Chow spoke on behalf of BC&C while Partners Guo Runhua and Huang Sizhe provided input from Chance Bridge.
Founded in 2011, Chance Bridge has 100-plus lawyers in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Haikou and offers a full range of legal services. It formally joined Ally Law in February.
