The making of a murder defence

Hong Kong, 12 February 2026: Our Senior Partner Colin Cohen drew on his vast experience as one of Hong Kong’s leading criminal defence lawyers to deliver a compelling talk to the Rotary Club of Wanchai.

In his presentation, entitled “In Defence of Murder”, Colin outlined the challenges facing a lawyer whose client is accused of this gravest of crimes. Citing high-profile cases in Hong Kong and overseas – including some where he has been personally involved – he explained the various types of defences to a murder charge, the different strategies a defence team may adopt and, in some instances, the appeals process.

Says Colin: “Whatever the alleged crime, it is a pillar of our legal system that an accused person is entitled to the most robust and thorough defence possible. In this regard, the work of a criminal defence lawyer is fundamental to ensuring a just and fair outcome. It was a pleasure to convey some of my knowledge to the Rotary Club members and I thank them for the invitation.”

Co-founder of BC&C in 1985, Colin has vast experience in the highest levels of Hong Kong’s legal system and has co-ordinated defence teams on some of the territory’s most high-profile court cases. He is recognised as a Leading Criminal Lawyer by Doyles Guide, where he is also highlighted for his White Collar Crime and Regulatory Investigations expertise. Further, he is listed as a Recommended Lawyer for Business Crime Defence in the Lexology Index.

Colin was invited to give his presentation at the Rotary Club of Wanchai’s regular lunch at the Grand Hyatt.
