Cross-border family law issues given airing

Hong Kong, 14 August 2019: A meeting between Hong Kong and Mainland family law practitioners in Guangzhou has been described as “very fruitful” by Boase Cohen & Collins Partner Lisa Wong.

She was one of six Hong Kong Family Law Association (HKFLA) members who travelled across the border to meet a group from the Guangzhou Lawyers Association (Marriage & Family Law Committee) plus lawyers from Global Kingway Law Firm, which hosted the event.

“It was a wide-ranging discussion with a particular focus on custody arrangements and ancillary relief matters, with each side giving a presentation followed by a Q&A session,” said Ms Wong, who is Secretary of the HKFLA.

“Given the close proximity of Hong Kong and Guangdong Province and the fact that there are so many cross-border families, it is vitally important that family law practitioners in both jurisdictions are fully aware of the many issues and developments related to this practice area. It was a very fruitful meeting and we all learned a lot.”

A Partner with Boase Cohen & Collins since 2014, Ms Wong’s key areas of practice include family law, separation and divorce, child custody and financial application. Aside from her role with the HKFLA, she is also Treasurer of the Hong Kong Collaborative Practice Group. An accredited mediator, she is devoted to helping divorce couples resolve their differences and make future arrangements amicably.
