Ally Law extends reach to booming Philippines

Hong Kong, 11 July 2019: Ally Law has welcomed its fifth new member of 2019 with the addition of ZGLaw in the Philippines, giving the global legal services organisation a presence in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic economies.

Founded in 1993 and based in Manila, ZGLaw – otherwise known as Zambrano Gruba Caganda & Advincula – is a full-service firm consistently recognised by its peers and independent rating entities for excellence in taxation, project finance, cross border mergers and acquisition, and dispute resolution.

“ZGLaw has already handled a number of referrals from members in the past year and so we are delighted to formally welcome the firm to our organisation,” commented Colin Cohen, Senior Partner in Boase Cohen & Collins and Chairman of Ally Law’s Expansion Committee.

“Recruiting a member firm in the Philippines has been a priority for Ally Law. With a population of more than 108 million, making it the 13th most populous country in the world, the Philippines is a significant market for legal services. It has increasing urbanisation and a growing middle-income class, making for a dynamic and rapidly developing economy.

“According to latest updates from the World Bank, business activities are buoyant with notable performance in the services sector including business process outsourcing, real estate, and the finance and insurance industries.”

Mr Cohen, who visited Manila to meet ZGLaw Partner Jack Advincula and his colleagues as the firm was preparing to join Ally Law, added: “We are looking forward to welcoming our Filipino colleagues to Hong Kong in October when we host the Ally Law Asia Pacific Regional Meeting. This will be an opportunity for our members to learn more about the firm and the potential that exists for referrals and other co-operation.”

Ally Law, which comprises some 70 independent law firms in around 50 jurisdictions, utilises close co-operation between members to help clients overcome their international legal and business challenges. Boase Cohen & Collins is Hong Kong's sole representative.
