French youngsters rule waves again at BC&C regatta

Hong Kong, 11 March 2019: French International School were crowned winners of the Boase Cohen & Collins Inter-School Sailing Festival for the third time in four years yesterday, capping a weekend of intense short-course racing on the waters off Middle Island.

Some 155 students from 17 educational institutions took part in the regatta, organised by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and now firmly established as one of the most hotly contested team racing events in the territory.

French International School finished first in Division A for Feva dinghies ahead of West Island School while the Hong Kong Schools Sailing Association were victorious in Division B for Pico dinghies, holding off the challenge of ISF Academy.

“Our congratulations go to all the teams who put in months of training and raced with tremendous spirit and sportsmanship. As well, we would like to thank all the Yacht Club’s staff and the large number of volunteers who helped make the regatta another huge success,” said BC&C Senior Partner Colin Cohen, who presented the trophies and medals together with Yacht Club Vice Commodore Denis Martinet.

“This was our fourth year as title sponsor and we are delighted to see this event flourishing and introducing more youngsters to competitive sailing. As a firm, we have a proud record of supporting youthful endeavor, whether within the legal profession or beyond. We look forward to returning in 2020.”

In addition to their trophies and medals, the winning teams in each division received a HK$10,000 scholarship to continue their sail training programmes.

Boase Cohen & Collins hosted some 50 guests to a Sunday afternoon buffet in the clubhouse and they were given a quick lesson in short-course sailing by Jamie Boag, formerly Team Director of 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race winners Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, who dropped by to explain what was happening out on the water.
