Ally Law delegates to converge on New Delhi

Hong Kong, 4 March 2019: Global legal services organisation Ally Law will break new ground this week by holding its AGM in India for the first time.

Scores of delegates – including Boase Cohen & Collins Senior Partner Colin Cohen and Partner Lisa Wong – will converge on the landmark Oberoi hotel in New Delhi for three days of meetings, presentations, panel discussions and networking events.

“It is entirely appropriate that this year’s AGM is being held in India, given that it is the fastest growing major economy in the world and a nation of boundless possibilities and vast business potential,” said Mr Cohen, a past President of Ally Law and now Chairman of the organisation’s Expansion Committee.

“India’s GDP grew at around 6.6% in 2018 and is expected to increase by 7.3% this year. It has a labour force in excess of 160 million and exports increased more than 15% year on year in 2018. It is expected to have 100,000 startups by 2025, which will create employment for 3.25 million people and US$500 billion in value.

“With figures like these, it is clear that Ally Law needs to be looking closely at India and the myriad opportunities it offers. The AGM will include a number of presentations about doing business in India and information about some of its key industries and any legal complexities that exist. It promises to be a fascinating meeting.”

Mr Cohen will present the Expansion Committee’s report – highlighting that 10 new firms joined Ally Law last year – and will also moderate a session regarding the fast-growing problem of cybercrime and its repercussions for law firms.

Boase Cohen & Collins is Hong Kong’s sole representative in Ally Law, which utilises close co-operation between members to help clients overcome their international legal and business challenges. The organisation comprises almost 70 firms in nearly 50 jurisdictions worldwide. The AGM, hosted by Indian law firm Advaya Legal, will begin on Wednesday.
