Mountaineer Ada Tsang captivates BC&C audience

Hong Kong, 11 October 2017: History-making mountaineer Ada Tsang gave Boase Cohen & Collins lawyers, clients and friends a vivid account of her adventures with an enthralling talk last night.

She described the setbacks, achievements, personal sacrifices and incredible determination that resulted in her becoming the first Hong Kong woman to scale Mount Everest, a feat she achieved earlier this year with sponsorship support from BC&C.

“Ada gave a fascinating presentation that was both insightful and inspiring and the feedback we received from guests afterwards was extremely positive. We are very grateful to her for taking time out from her busy schedule to share her experiences with us,” said Boase Cohen & Collins Senior Partner Colin Cohen.

“We are a firm that believes in excellence, professionalism, global outreach and rising to challenges and, in this regard, Ada is a wonderful example to us all. Looking ahead, she has set more adventure goals that will involve mentoring and inspiring young people to follow in her footsteps and we anticipate continuing our support for her efforts.”

In her presentation, at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Central, former teacher Ada recalled how, in an effort to inspire her students to reach for their goals, she made a promise to them seven years ago that she would climb Mount Everest. At the time, she had no mountaineering experience.

Her first attempt in 2014 ended when the Nepalese Government cancelled all activities on the fabled mountain following a deadly avalanche. She tried again the following year but disaster struck again with the Nepal earthquake. Five of her teammates lost their lives in the resulting avalanche while Ada suffered serious head and chest injuries from which she took six months to recover.

With amazing resilience, she regained fitness and returned to the mountain this year for a third time. She was finally successful when, on 21 May, she stood atop the world’s highest peak with two male teammates and a pair of Sherpa guides.
