Colin Cohen attends high-level arbitration seminar

Hong Kong, 27 September 2017: Boase Cohen & Collins Senior Partner Colin Cohen was among a select group of lawyers who attended a high-powered seminar this week designed to launch the Law Society of Hong Kong’s new arbitration service.

Participants in the seminar – organised by the Hong Kong Academy of Law and held at the Department of Justice offices in Central – were welcomed by the Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen. Other senior figures attending included Solicitor General Wesley Wong SC, Law Society President Thomas So and Huen Wong, Chairman of the Law Society’s Arbitration Committee.

The event was held to support the implementation of the Law Society’s new Panel of Arbitrators, a hand-picked list of experienced lawyers whose services will be promoted to professional institutes, chambers of commerce and consumer groups.

“It was a well-attended seminar that examined the latest trends and challenges in the field of arbitration,” said Mr Cohen, who is one of just 24 solicitors named on the Panel of Arbitrators.

“As well, the presence of the Secretary for Justice underlined the Government’s commitment to not only promoting arbitration to local businesses and consumer groups but towards establishing Hong Kong as an international centre for arbitration and dispute resolution.”

Mr Cohen is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators and an Accredited General Mediator with both the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Law Society. Membership of the Panel of Arbitrators is for a four-year period, after which individuals may apply for renewal.

Guest speakers at the seminar were Chartered Arbitrator and barrister Mary Thomson and Senior Assistant Solicitor General Lee Tin Yan.
